Who we are

SMPL is made and sold by Entropy Records Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16923862), registered office 11 Beechwood View, Leeds, LS4 2LP, England.

02

What you can buy

SMPL is free to play. A free device includes a limited number of on-device exports. You can buy:

  • The Full Pack · £30: The full device unlocked, plus the downloadable SMPL sample pack.
  • The Device · £15: The full device unlocked, with no pack download.
  • Pack upgrade · £15: Adds the sample pack to an existing Device licence.

What each product includes is described on the purchase screen when you buy. All purchases are one-off payments, not subscriptions.

03

Prices and payment

Prices are in pounds sterling. Entropy Records Ltd is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added. Payment is taken at checkout by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your card details. If your bank charges a currency conversion fee, that is between you and your bank.

04

When the contract is made

Our contract starts when Stripe confirms your payment. We then email a licence key to the address you gave at checkout. Keep that email: it is your receipt, it confirms these terms, and the key restores your purchase.

05

Delivery

SMPL is digital content, supplied immediately:

  • The device unlocks in the browser you bought on as soon as payment is confirmed.
  • The sample pack (Full Pack or upgrade) becomes available to download from inside SMPL straight away. Your licence includes one download of the pack on each of your licensed devices, so save it somewhere safe.

06

Your right to cancel

Normally, consumers in the UK have 14 days to cancel an online purchase. For digital content, that right ends once supply starts, if you agreed to that before buying. At checkout you are asked to confirm that you want immediate access and that you understand you will lose the right to cancel once access begins. Because SMPL unlocks the moment payment clears, you will not be able to cancel for a change of mind after buying.

This does not affect your rights if something is faulty (section 07). We may still choose to refund in other cases. Email us and ask.

07

If something is wrong

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If it isn't, contact us. We will try to fix it or provide a working copy. If we can't do that within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you can ask for some or all of your money back.

If faulty SMPL content damages your device or other digital content, and that happened because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or compensate you.

SMPL needs a modern browser and a working audio device. Check the free version works on your setup before you buy: if it does, the paid version will too.

08

Your licence

Licence key and devices

Your purchase is a personal licence for one person. The key unlocks the full device on up to two devices at a time. Using it on a third device frees up the oldest one, which will ask for the key again the next time it exports. Please don't share or sell your key.

What you make with SMPL

The audio you export from SMPL, free or paid, is royalty-free. You may release, distribute and earn money from music you make with it.

The sample pack

The samples are royalty-free and cleared for use in your own commercial and non-commercial music productions, sync licensing and releases. You may:

  • use them, raw or corrupted, chopped, pitched, resampled or otherwise transformed, in your own musical works;
  • release, distribute and earn money from music made with them;
  • use them in commercial projects such as film, games and adverts.

You may not:

  • resell, redistribute or repackage the samples on their own, or as part of another sample pack or sound library;
  • claim the raw, unaltered samples as your own original composition.

We (or our licensors) keep ownership of SMPL, its software, artwork and the samples. You get a licence to use them as described here, not ownership.

09

Keeping SMPL running

SMPL runs in your browser and relies on our servers to check licences. We aim to keep it available and may update or improve it over time. If we ever plan to close SMPL, we will give at least 90 days' notice by email to buyers and on the site. The sample pack files you downloaded and the audio you exported are yours to keep and use under section 08, whatever happens to the service.

10

Refunds, chargebacks and misuse

If a purchase is refunded or reversed (including through a chargeback), the licence it paid for ends and the device relocks. A refunded upgrade returns the licence to Device. We may end a licence that is being shared, resold or used to get around SMPL's licence checks.

11

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that breach, up to the price you paid. We are not responsible for business losses: SMPL is sold to consumers for private use.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit, and nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.

12

Your personal data

We use your email address and purchase details to deliver and support your licence. See our Privacy Policy.

13

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to a purchase is the one published when you made it.

14

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you have a problem, email us first at contact.entropyrecords@gmail.com and we'll try to sort it out.
